Alcoba Aims High Once Again

Jeremy Alcoba (Kawasaki WorldSSP Team) approaches the second round of the 2025 FIM Supersport World Championship sitting in a strong fifth place in the overall rankings, after a remarkably adept debut race weekend for both bike and rider in this category of racing.

After a break of four clear weekends since the opening round of the year at Phillip Island in February, the WorldSSP championship will get going again in earnest at the 4.592km long Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, in southern Portugal, between 28 and 30 March.

Jeremy and his Ninja ZX-6R 636 developed an immediately strong partnership in their first race weekend together, despite the Spanish rider still recovering from a hand injury and starting from 15th place on the grid for Race One.

Race results of tenth in the season opener and then fifth in the second Phillip Island race (even after a six second penalty was applied to his total race time due to an inadvertent pitlane exit infringement) saw Alcoba place the impressive 636cc Ninja into overall championship fifth place ahead of the second round.

Jeremy and his team did not attend the recent private test at Portimao but they will be working hard to ensure a strong qualifying performance before taking on the challenge of the heavily undulating Portimao circuit in a race setting.

As ever, there will be two points scoring races each WorldSSP race weekend, over a scheduled 17 laps each time. Superpole qualifying in Portugal will take place on Friday 28 March, Race One gets underway on Saturday 29 and the second and final race will conclude the weekend’s WorldSSP action on Sunday 30 March.

Jeremy Alcoba, stated: “I’m really excited to get back to riding my Ninja ZX-6R 636 and I am pleased to do it at Portimao, a fun track that I really like. This past month the weather hasn’t been great and so I haven’t been able to train on the bike, but I have worked hard on my physical training anyway. The first Phillip Island round was positive and highlighted our bike’s strong potential. I think we can continue with the development and do well in Portugal.”
